I was skeptical, having previously purchased a larger contraption that came with a powerful pump and a separate solar panel that was nothing but annoying. The power was intermittent at best and we gave up on it very early into its trial. We are using this little pump in a tall pot that has a sealed bottom. We had to rig a little flotation device underneath so it sits atop the water (and follows the water down as it splashes or evaporates out), but otherwise I am actually thrilled with its performance. For what it is, an inexpensive solar fountain, it works better than I had expected. As long as the sun is hitting the panel, it shoots out a stream of water (if that's the attachment you prefer) 6-10" high. I would not recommend using it in a shallow dish, as the water tends to splatter or be blown out of the vessel.

Although the solar insert will produce a small fountain of water, the lack of a backup battery means that the fountain does not run consistently. Even the flight of a bird overhead causes the fountain to falter. Finding a birdbath or pot to accommodate it is also a challenge The pump must be submerged or the motor will be damaged--this means that you must have a fairly deep container, and most of the birdbaths I have found are too shallow for the pump. I thought a nice garden pot would be a good substitute, but when placed in a deep garden pot, the solar panels are shaded by the sides of the pot and no spray of water ensues.

How disappointing.. I would not recommend this product.
